This allows y ou to use the system as a tablet, much as you would a pad of pap er. OPENING THE DISPLAY PANE L 1. Pr ess the latc h release bu tton. This r eleases the locking mechanism. Whil e holding the latch r elease, lift disp la y co ve r. 2. Lift the display backwards, being careful not to touch the scr een, until it is at a c omfortable view ing angle. (Figure 2-11) USING THE SYSTEM AS A T ABLET If yo u would lik e to use the system as a tablet, perform the following step s. 1. Lift the display until it is perpendicular to the key b oa rd. (Figure 2-13). 2. W hen the displa y is perpendicular to the k e yboard, rotate it clockwise (when viewed from th e top). Be very careful t o rotate i t in the dir ection indicated. (Figure 2-14). T urn the display 180 degrees so that it is facing backwards. (Figure 2-15) 3. Holdin g the top edge of the displa y panel, pull it forward until it is lying nearly atop the k eyboard. 4. Push the latc h towar ds the display (See “ A ” in Figure 2-12). The lat ch will piv ot so the top lat ch disappears, and the bottom latch appears (See “B ” in Figure 2-12). H olding the latch do w n, lay the display flush against the system so that the latch engages. Y ou can now use your system as a tabl et. (Figure 2- 16) Figure 2-12. System in tablet configuratio n ADJUSTING DISPLAY PANEL BRIGHTN ESS Once y ou hav e turned on your T ablet PC, you ma y want to adjust the brig htness level of the screen to a more comfortable viewing level. There are tw o wa ys to adjust the brightness, keyboard and po wer manageme nt utility. Select the Display tab and set the s creen brightness slider for battery and AC po wer scenarios. Using the Fujitsu Menu to Adjust Brightness T o adjust brightness using the Fujitsu men u, click on the Fujitsu M enu ic on in the system tray in the lowe r right corner of the screen (or double-c lick the Function button). From the menu that appears, select Brightness Contr ol. The T ablet and P en Settings windo w will open. Select the Display tab and set the s creen brightness slider for battery and AC po wer scenarios. 90 o If using AC power your brightness setting is set to its hi ghest leve l by default. If using battery power y our brightness settings is set to approximately mid-level by default. The higher the brightne ss level, the mor e power the LifeBook T Series T ablet PC will consume and the faster your batteries will discharge. T Series.book Page 20 Wednesday, February 16, 2005 1:59 PM Keyboard Keyboard USING THE KEYBOARD Y our LifeBook T Series T ablet PC has an integral 84-key keyboard. The keys perform all the standard functions of a 101-key k eyboard, including the W indows keys and other special function keys. NUMERIC KEYPAD Certain keys on the keyboard perform dual func tions as both standard character keys and numeric key pad keys. T urning off the NumLk featur e is done the same way. The k eys in the numeric k eypad are marked on the front edge of the key t o indicate the ir secondary func- tions. (Figure 2-17) WI NDOWS KEYS Y our LifeBook T Series T ablet PC has two Wind ows keys: a Start key and an A pplication key.

    The Start key displays the Start menu. This button functions the same as your onscreen Start menu button. The Application key functions the same as your right mouse bu tton and displays shortcut menus fo r the selected item. (Please refer t o your W indows documentation for additional information regar ding the W indows k eys.) (Figure 2-17) CURSOR KEYS Th e c ur so r ke ys a re t he fo ur a rrow ke ys on th e key bo a rd which allow y ou to move the cursor up, down, left, and right in applications. In programs such as Wind ows Explorer, it mo ves the “f ocus” (selects th e next item up, down, left, or right). If the security system is activated, upon star ting your T ablet PC or resuming from Standby, Hiber nate, or shut- down mode the securit y system will require you to ent er a password code using the securit y buttons. After you enter the c orrect passwor d, your T ablet PC will resume operation. Four of the buttons are used t o enter the passwor d, and the fifth is used as an Enter butt on. See the rig ht-hand column of T able 2-2. T ablet PC functions: All five of the buttons have primar y functions. Four of the buttons ha ve secondary functions when used as application b uttons.

    The secondary functions are activat ed by pr essing the F unc- tion (Fn) button while pressing the application butt on. See T able 2-2 for specific functions. The secondary func- tions of the Applicatio n A and B buttons can be c hanged to launch an y applicat ion.See “Changing T ablet PC Button Functions ” on page 24 to select a differen t application for this button. SETTING UP LIFEBOOK SECURITY PANEL W hen you r ecei ve y our T ablet PC, the securit y panel application is pre-installed without an y passwords. The following sections provide detailed information on your security panel, how to set, change or remov e passwords. Numbered Buttons U se these buttons to ent er your passwor d. (Figu re 2-18) Enter Button After entering the button strokes, push this button to enter the passw ord int o the T ablet PC. (Figur e 2-18) PASSWORDS The user and superv isor password may be set on this T ablet PC.
